community centre peterborough
The St Marks Wellbeing centre was designed to reduce the stigma attached to marginalised members of the community, provide a base for community services and charities, and encourage integration within the Community.
The scheme replaced a run down existing church hall and to provide a mental health library, office space, quiet and counselling rooms, first aid and catering facilities and an externally accessible soup kitchen.
Options were assessed to re-use the existing building but the benefits associated with a new build far outweighed those for demolition. The new structure has a glazed entrance façade using coloured glass matched to the hues found in the existing building and surroundings.
